In the European Union Horizon 2020 Teaming research program the Budapesti University of Technology and Economics (BME) together with three comsortium partners was awarded nearly 400 thousand EURs to establish a Smart City Centre of Excellence at BME. The consortium partners are the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office - SZTNH (Budapest), Fraunhofer Fokus (Berlin) and Urban Software Institute (Chemnitz). The objective of the two-phased grant is the establishment of centres of excellence with the aid of leading European institutions in lower RDI (Research, Development and Innovation) performance countries. The first phase of the Smartpolis grant will close in May next year. The second phase of the Horizon 2020 Teaming grant will award further 15-20 million EUR to the best projects. The lecture presents the EU and the Hungarian strategies of smart city and the tasks ahead of the establishment of the Smartpolis Centre of Excellence.
